Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge 650g

Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge is a ceramic filtration medium which will adsorb phosphates and silicates quickly (within hours) when placed directly in the water flow. Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge can be used in fresh and saltwater aquariums or ponds. One quart of Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge will reduce water of approximately 1.0 ppm of phosphate or silicates down to less than 0.05 ppm in a 120 gallon tank.

For silicates to be removed, phosphates must first be removed. The beads in Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge are designed as cracked to expose more surface area and increase efficiency. This product will not release any soluble aluminum compounds into your aquarium, causing negative reactions from your inverts, as competing products may.

Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge will also absorb moisture for use as an air dryer for ozone. It is important to treat your water carefully when adding it to your aquarium, as many water companies add phosphates to the tap water to assist in controlling lead consumption by humans, and sodium silicate (water glass) is also added to help reduce pipe corrosion. Phosphates and silicates also naturally occur in rivers and lakes.

Bead renewal: For phosphate removal, renewal may or may not be possible, depending on conditions of use.
For product renewal spread 1/4" thick on a baking pan. Place in a 450 degree oven for one hour (do not use the pan for food).
Let the beads cool.
Rinse with fresh water (preferably reverse osmosis or deionized water) and re-use.

These beads may be renewed up to twice, depending on circumstances of use; however, the capacity will be much lower each time.

When reusing, leave for 8 hours, maximum.
